A man suspected of armed robbery died early Friday after driving over stop sticks deployed by Orange County deputies and later crashing along Old Winter Garden Road, according to the sheriff’s office.

The vehicle crashed in the 3800 block of Old Winter Garden Road, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement, adding the stop sticks flattened several if not all of the vehicle’s tires.

The car became engulfed in flames as deputies attempted to put the fire out and provide lifesaving measures, the statement reads. Orange County Fire Rescue then responded and put out the fire, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene, the sheriff’s office said.

Orlando police are now conducting the crash investigation, according to the statement.
