OCALA, Fla. – The Ocala Police Department is asking for the public’s help identifying human remains discovered in August 2000 when crews were excavating a water pipe, according to a news release.
Police said that Ocala Public Works crews were excavating the water pipe near the 600 block of SW 12th St. when they found human remains.
According to the release, “Medical professionals determined the unidentified person to be a white male in his 40s with distinctive dental features, including missing teeth and a gap between his upper front teeth.”

Police said an investigation showed that the man suffered several bone fractures, but the timing of the injuries is unknown.
The remains may have been buried anytime between eight months and five years before they were found.
Police said they are investigating the case as a potential homicide.
