16-year-old arrested in Orlando, accused of threatening a public official online

ORLANDO, Fla. – Police in Orlando arrested a 16-year-old girl Friday, accused of threatening a public official on social media.

In a news release, the agency said they were alerted to a social media post threatening deadly violence. While the public official was not named, the United States Secret Service is assisting with the investigation.

The teenager, who is a student at Lake Nona High School, has been taken into custody and is facing charges of written/electronic threat to kill or cause bodily harm.

The teen was not identified.

The news comes amid several days of increased threats or rumors of threats involving public schools throughout Central Florida. Several students have been arrested either for making threats or after weapons were found on a school campus.
